I'll try a dash of my Hugo Boss, since it seems to go well with my aftershave, without overwhelming.

Well, in my opinion Old Spice alone has a very "heavy" fragance, that simply surpresses most other. So imho there is no point on wearing another.

I for myself like that new "007 James Bond" branded Eau the Toilette.

is it really down to Eau the Toilette and Deo already?
For myself, for conventions I prefer some non-smelling-salve.

That´s up to you. Most people prefer something with fragrance to cover the personal scent or just because they like the chosen fragrance. Additionally fragrance is preferably used for occasions like the gala.

Time to free this thread from dust!

As GalaCon and the gala evening event is coming near the official dress code is surely to be announced shortly. In expectation to similar rules like last year I already bought my dress for that occasion months ago. This is what I am going to wear:
A royal blue shoulder-free dress made of satin, chiffon and organza and thus perfect for a warm summer evening due to its lightness. The dress wraps around the calves and the cleavage is accentuated but not showing too much. Personally I like the color very much, I decided on it already at the beginning of the year. The straps can be adjusted and worn in three ways: normal, tied in the neck or crossed on the back - the variety is a plus in my opinion.
Fitting with the embroidered satin part I bought these ball room dance shoes:
The upper material is satin, in accordance to the dress and stola I have.

What's with you? Do you already have a dress or are you still looking for one? Will you wait until the official dresscode is released and buy a dress in hurry or will you choose by risk like me? Show us a photo of your dress, preferably with you wearing it! :)

The dress is beautiful. Mine is also going to be royal blue, but since I'm cosplaying for the Gala night again, this is all I can tell ;)

By all means, avoid scented deo such as Axe and the like.

AXE is no deo in my eyes, but perfume.
As for deos, I prefer roll-ons. Actually does the job.

As a person, of course you shouldn't be too smelly, but a discreet eau or the like can't be that bad. RD wink

I guess this might count as a qualified post. Since I started to visit conventions as a visitor and/or helper I learned that a con-bag is always a good idea.

- germicide (one for the hands, one for... you know what)
- painkillers and patches
- glucose

Thats the small bag. The larger one is in the car, it includes bottled water, tracking-cookies, a ice-bag and even toilet-paper.

About perfume and does, I prefer salve, as I said. roll-ons are OK too.

One big thing I need to know: when I arrive friday morning, when and where can I report myself?

Here is the Official Dresscode!
http://www.galacon.eu/gala-evening/

Read it carefully. There are not many and no stiff rules but nonetheless you should cling to them! Otherwise it just might happen that you don't get access to the gala part of the evening event (disco part will be fine though).

I also added the link to the startpost.

any idea when the gala event changes to the disco theme? I'm probably going to wait for that so I can come in with my Vinyl Scratch outfit, which doesn't fit with the formal gala theme.
Also, will there be blacklight? because that would be awesome. Cheerilee

New year, new GalaCon, new evening dress!
Yes, as I will be once more participating in this year's GalaCon of course only a new ball dress will suffice. Twilight happy And my husband and I are going BIG this year. Some might even consider our dresses fit for a wedding but we're not unveiling anymore. Keeps the thread energized, y'know? ;)
As for me only a dress and a petticoat is needed since I have stuff like shoes and accessories en masse from the last two years. My husband however gets a complete new dress with shoes, vest, jacket and so on. Most is already bought, some minor things are still needed though. You think that's way too early to make plans? Hell no! You never can plan early enough to get your perfect dress.
Anyways, like last year you can find tipps and hints on almost every topic and question regarding THE EVENT this year. Most of the guide is universally valid so there will be only minor changes. Just take a look at the opening post from time to time. I will add any advice suggested by you or the GalaCon Orga. As soon as the official dresscode comes out I'll be sure to update in the startpost as well!

Meanwhile, I'm going to get more actually ballroom-danceable music out of the masses of brony musicians. I'm tired of those epic orchestral arrangements being the best music for the gala ball and still completely undanceable and dozens of dressed-up bronies trying and failing to waltz to it.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that, though. It's difficult enough to find and reach those few who could make such music.

Maybe I could whip up something myself.

This would be great! I am sure that everybody will appreciate your efforts. Hopefully you can sum something up. As for me, I'd be totally ok with danceable music that is not directly MLP-related, like the classic waltz.

As of now, we've got a couple of disco-like songs and — I halfway expected that — a load of waltzes.

No traces whatsoever of Latin music, unfortunately.

With this I won't look like a total numskull *no pun intended* if I ask a lady out to dance
